The Outsiders

The Outsiders - S.E. Hinton

The Outsiders is about two social groups that live in a city. These two group are called the greasers and socials or "socs". The greasers are a poor and low-lifes who steal and fight. The socs are rich and get whatever they want. These two groups go to the same school. They are always jumping each other and beating each other up. But one night things are taken to far. The main character, Ponyboy is a greaser who is the youngest out of his gang. He has two brothers, Darry and Soda, their parents were killed in a wreck about a year ago, so it is just the three of the,. Ponyboy has it great compared to Johnny, who is another greaser but is abused by his parents. These two are good friends and they understand each other. So one night the gang go to the drive-in movies. The socs are also there, but not boys but girls. Dallas one of the greasers in the gang starts to hit on these two girls Cherry and Valance and Marcia. Cherry is a different soc then the rest. He likes her and she understands him. So Johnny and Ponyboy offer to walk the girls home and they say yes. When they are walking a blue mustang pulls up and the girls boyfriends get out and almost fight the two greasers. But the girls stop them and go with them willingly. Johnny and Ponyboy go home after this. Ponyboy arrives home late, and Darry is very angry and hits him. Ponyboy runs away and meets up with Johnny. The two lay in a vacant parking lot and they see the blue mustang pull up. The drunk socs get out and start beating on Ponyboy and Johnny. After the socs nearly drown Ponyboy in a fountain, Johnny stabs one of the socs, killing him. Terrified, they find Dallas, who gives them money and a gun and tells them to go hide in an abandoned church. They arrive at the church and they stay there for a few days before Dally shows up telling them but has happened since that night. He also brings more money for the boys. Dally tells them that the cops are looking for them and have their descriptions in the paper. But the boys don't look like that because they cut and bleached their hair. Dally also tells them that a war has started between the greasers and socs because of what Johnny did. So what will happen next? Will Johnny turn himself in or will he hide forever?

The Fifteenth Summer(book blog #11)

Fifteenth Summer - Michelle Dalton

I started a new book called the Fifteenth Summer. It is about a family of five who every summer go to Bluepointe, Michigan to stay at their grandma's house. This summer will not be the same because their grandma has passed away. There is Abbie, Hannah and Chelsea, they are all three sisters. But Chelsea is different from her older sisters she has red curly hair, loves to read, the youngest and has never been in love. But this summer things are going to change for her. When they arrive in Bluepointe the family unpacks unto their grandma's old cabin house. While they are doing this Chelsea wants to go check out the town and go to the library. But when she is town she sees something different, a book store! So she goes into the bookstore which is called Dog Ear and takes it all in. Chelsea is greeted by a nice lady who tells her to look around and have some cookies and stay and read. So Chelsea stays to look at all the books but she spots someone. Not just anyone but a very cute boy. This boy's name is Josh and they have a connection at first but then things get weird but then the connection is back. When she first saw him he was destroying books and she freaked out on him. Josh explained and said that he was actually saving them because they were books that were not selling so they were sending them back to the editor. Chelsea decides to save a book called Coconut Dreams, now Chelsea has to leave so she says buy to Josh. On her way home all she could think about was Josh. The following week or so the family decided to take a day on the beach. Abbie, Hannah and Chelsea wanted to go get some ice cream so they went into town. On the way there Abbie saw one of her flings from past summers walking down the street. So they decided to follow him and he finally went into the Dog Ear. Chelsea was freaking out because she would probably run into Josh. So will she and Josh have a summer romance? I am really enjoying this book so far and can't wait to read on.

The List(book blog #10)

The List - Siobhan (Author) on Apr-01-2012 Hardcover The List THE LIST by Vivian

I finally finished the book and I loved it. Abby snuck out of her house and still went to homecoming and had a great time. Danielle decided to go to homecoming with the swim team with a date and also had a blast. Candace and Lauren actually became friends but ended up not going to homecoming because Lauren was wasted and Candace took care of her. Sarah decided not to pull any pranks at homecoming and caved and took a shower when Milo showed up and encouraged her and told her she was beautiful. Now Bridgett still went through with her "cleanse" but just for homecoming and promised she would never to that again. Margo and Jennifer still are not friends but they learned to respect each other. And now the moment we have all been waiting for, the homecoming queen is...................................Margo. She learned something though, the tiara is just plastic.

The List (Book Blog #9)

The List - Siobhan (Author) on Apr-01-2012 Hardcover The List THE LIST by Vivian

It is finally the night of the homecoming football game. Margo is sitting at her house in her cheerleading uniform when her sister Maureen calls. Margo brings up the list and Maureen is confused. She finally admits something which shocks everyone including me. Maureen had made the list the year before when the stamp was found in her locker. She felt guilty about putting Jennifer on the list so she admits it to her and throws the stamp away right in front of Jennifer, putting a stop to the list, so she thought. So when Margo heard this is clicked, Jennifer made the list this year. Furious she went over to Jennifer's and went off on her. Margo asked for the stamp for prove she didn't do it but Jennifer says no. Jennifer admitted it but asked Margo not to tell anyone until after the dance. So their deal was that Jennifer would give Margo the stamp after the dance and the list would be finished with. Back over to Abby, she is still not allowed to go to the dance. Fern has to help her study instead which sucks for the both of them. After arguing about why Fern told on her and how the list is stupid everything is laid out. Fern hates the list so much because she was actually on it the year before. Hearing this Abby starts to understand her sister. Also hearing Fern say she is ugly it brings a lot of emotion to Abby and she tells her that she is not but Fern doesn't listen. I think that these two need to talk more about this list and become true sisters. During all of this the boys had actually lost the football game. Also during this Danielle is celebrating her swimming victory. But she does not want to go to the dance but they varsity swim team convinces her otherwise. Just a few hours away from homecoming and we will see how everything ends up and what relationships last and which ones don't.

The List

The List - Siobhan (Author) on Apr-01-2012 Hardcover The List THE LIST by Vivian

Last time we caught up on the freshmen and sophomore but now we are going to concentrate on the juniors and seniors. Starting off with the juniors, Bridgett and Sarah. Bridgett has a problem of not eating and throwing up her food to be pretty. Even though she is both skinny and pretty she does not believe it. She keeps convincing herself that she can tough it out until homecoming to fit into her dress. Because when she went shopping she had to get a size smaller because they didn't have her size. When her sister Lisa finds out what she has been doing she is very upset. She starts crying and doesn't understand why. Seeing her sister like this it makes Bridgett think more about what she is doing to herself. But she is telling herself just a few more days. Lisa won't even talk to her now because she knows how pretty her sister is and shouldn't be doing that to yourself. Again I can relate because I am a older sister and wouldn't make her go through that or let her think she is or isn't something. Sarah the ugliest junior is still going to go through her plan to ruin homecoming. But doing this she has lost an important relationship along the way, her boyfriend Milo. When Milo and Sarah are called into the principals about their plans Sarah thinks it's is funny. Milo on the other hand does not and wants her to stop and not go through with the plan. Milo decides he is not going to the dance and Sarah takes this badly and she ends things with Milo because she thinks that he should support her. It will be interesting to see what Sarah finally decides to do. Now Margo and Jennifer, the seniors. They have a lot of history together. So when Dana and Rachael come up with a plan to make Jennifer homecoming queen Margo is very upset. She is supposed to be queen not Jennifer. Margo learns that she might just have to deal with it though so she has a party at her house for the homecoming queen candidacy and Jennifer the guest of honor. At this party Margo and Jennifer have a falling out. Jennifer goes into Margo's room and Margo catches her there. This infuriates Margo and she yells at Jennifer. Scared Jennifer goes downstairs and drinks. Margo and Jennifer avoid each other all night. I am so close to finding out how this book ends and I can't wait to finish writing about it.

The List

The List - Siobhan (Author) on Apr-01-2012 Hardcover The List THE LIST by Vivian

Everyone is still thinking about homecoming and how to prepare. Including the ugly and pretty girls.Of coarse the list is still a huge factor in this story. It is setting everyone apart. Abby the prettiest freshmen is stoked for the dance. She would do anything to go. So when an opportunity comes she will take it. Abby is failing her classes and must get a progress report signed by her parents. But she knows if her parents see it they will not let her go to the dance. So Abby's best friend gives her an idea to sign it herself, and she does. That day she decides to bring the report to her teacher but when she enters the classroom she finds her sister Fern in there. Fern knows that their parents did not sign the progress report. Abby is in huge trouble now, and she begs Fern not to tell their parents. But being the good daughter she does. This upsets Abby very much because now she can't go to the dance. It will take a lot for Abby to forgive her sister. I can relate to this because I have a sister and we fight quite a bit. Now to the ugliest freshman Danielle. Her boyfriend's friends have been making of fun of Danielle and Andrew has been doing nothing about it. So when her and Andrew are alone she invites herself to go to pizza with him and they boys to prove herself. Andrew says sure and she should meet him after practice, so that's what she does. Her best friend Hope comes along also. But he is no where to be seen. So they head to the pizza parlor. When they get there they see Andrew and his friends. Danielle and Hope go in and are embarrassed but Andrew doesn't seem to care and his friends still make fun of Danielle. Danielle runs out upset and Andrew comes after her. They talk about why he doesn't stand up for her she ends it with him. I think Danielle did the right thing, because you don't want someone in your life who isn't going to be there and stand up for you. Now we get to the sophomores, Lauren and Candace. Lauren was a previously home-schooled girl who suddenly becomes popular. And the ex-queen, Candace is quickly forgotten, but not for her looks but for her inside ugliness. All of Candace's friends suddenly realize how mean she is and becomes friends with Lauren. This infuriates Candace so she decides to be nice to Lauren and become friends to win her popularity back. Candace is hosting a pre-homecoming party and invites her friends and Lauren. But Lauren's mom won't let her go unless she meets Candace first. Lauren has to invite her over for dinner. Lauren is surprised when Candace says yes. While Candace arrives she starts to realize that Lauren is truly a nice girl and she actually does want to be friends with her. Will this blossom into a friendship? I am really enjoying this book and I can't wait to finish it to see how everyone ends up.

The List

The List (Paperback) - Common - by Siobhan Vivian

Quite a bit has happened in this book so far. Now that the list has gotten around and the ugliest and prettiest have been named there is a lot of problems. Everyone is preparing for homecoming and that's all anyone can think about ,besides, the list of course. Sarah the ugliest junior is planning on not showering or changing her clothes for an entire week until homecoming night. She is determined to make sure that no one is having a good time besides her. Danielle the ugliest freshman has bought the most girliest dress so she does not look like a man. Jennifer the ugliest senior who has been put on the list all four years of her high school career suddenly becomes popular. She is even nominated for homecoming queen. When Jennifer and Margo were in middle school they were best friends but since high school but do not talk anymore. Margo's friends' Dana and Rachael invite Jennifer to go look at homecoming dresses with them and Margo. But, Margo chickens out because she does not want to become friends with Jennifer again. Finally, Candace the ugliest sophomore is trying to show everyone she is not ugly on the inside. By doing this she is throwing a party before homecoming with alcohol hoping she will rule again. This list is destroying friendships and everyone involved day after day. Each day brings a new challenge or temptation for these girls and their lives. Having something like this in high school labeling everyone would be very hard to deal with and get through.

The List

The List (Paperback) - Common - by Siobhan Vivian

I started a new book called, "The List." It is about a high school by the name of Mount Washington High. This school has a tradition of making a list containing one pretty girl and one ugly girl from each grade. This list comes out around homecoming but no one knows who makes it. It is put everywhere in the school; bathrooms, lockers, classrooms, and the hallways. Everyone can get a hold of the list and see it. For the girls picked and put on the list they become the center of attention and the girls not picked are forgotten. Each girl reacts differently to the experience. This tradition has been going one for as long as anyone can remember. This book goes through chapter by chapter of each girls reaction. The prettiest freshman is Abby Warner and the ugliest freshman is Danielle Demarco. The prettiest sophomore is Lauren Finn and the ugliest sophomore is Candance Kincaid. The prettiest junior is Bridgett Honeycutt and the ugliest junior is Sarah Singer. The prettiest senior is Margo Gable and the ugliest senior is Jennifer Briggis. The prettiest girls soon become the most popular girls in school once their names are on the list. The ugliest girls are made fun of and no one talks to them but everyone still knows who they are. The new principal at Mount Washington is determined to find out who makes this list, so they has a meeting with all 8 girls affected. In this meeting she asks them if they know anything about who makes the list and that they should talk about they feelings about the list together. But none of them want to talk to each other because they do not like each other and they do not know each other. This book shows how hard it can be to fit in, in high school and what labels can do to someone. I am really enjoying this book so far and I can't wait to read more!

Why We Broke Up

Why We Broke Up - Daniel Handler, Maira Kalman

I finally finished this book. This book was very good and I truly enjoyed it. Min still goes through all their memories but it's getting down to when she truly breaks. You can start to tell that things are not looking good for Ed and Min. They start getting in way more fights and disagree a lot more. Ed was the one to break up with Min and this destorys her. It hurts even more because they had finally had sex and really loved each other. But Ed had feelings for a different girl and didn't want to be with Min anymore. It is going to be very hard for Min to see Ed around school. I feel like many girls or boys can relate to this awkwardness between each other. It is important that we learn a lesson from Min and Eds heartbreak and time spent. Even though she saw it coming it still hurt her very much. She has just finished her letter and finally dropped off the box of things. Al has also been there for her and always will be. He finally admits his feelings for Min and I think that they would make a good couple and should be together. it will take Min a while to get over this but she will make it through. Overall I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read more by this author.

Why We Broke Up

Why We Broke Up - Daniel Handler, Maira Kalman

Quite a bit of stuff has happened since I last wrote. Min still explains every memory and thing that her and Ed have gone through. She has a story for everything. I like to read about their adventures they had together. It shows how hard it is to be in a relationship in high school. Ed and Min have gone against all odds and still are together. They have learned to hang out with both their friends and each other. They have finally said "I love you," to each other and I truly believe they mean it. But I fear that their breaking points are coming very very soon. It will be interesting to see how they will handle it. I am really enjoying this book. It is also very relatable since I'm in high school and know how there are pressures. This book can also be very relatable to kids who are in a relationship in high school who people never thought would bee together but end up being together.

Why We Broke Up

Why We Broke Up - Daniel Handler, Maira Kalman

For my second book log of Why We Broke up I will tell you what has happened. Not much has happened that I haven't already said. Min the girl in the story is still writing her letter to Ed about why they broke up. She is still going through every object and memory that the two of them shared. If you think about it there is quite a lot of things these two went through together and what they went through together. This book shows how an ordinary girl falls for the boy everybody wants and ends up falling in love with him. Min has kept everything that the two of them went through together and gives them all back to Ed in a box and leaves it at his front door. I can personally see why Min fell for Ed, the basketball star. He can be himself around her but when he is with his friends or at school he doesn't show his true self. I feel that Min just ends up getting hurt in the end. I really enjoy this book and can't wait to see how it ends and what happens to Ed and Min after Ed gets the letter and box.

Why We Broke Up

Why We Broke Up - Daniel Handler, Maira Kalman

I am reading the book Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler. It is about two completely different people in high school who fall in love but then break up. The main character Min Green tells us all the reasons why her and Ed Slaterton broke up. She sends Ed a box and letter of all their memories together. Min was just a quiet girl at her best friend's party when Ed the star basketball player shows up. They start to spend more and more time together. They start to fall in love with each other but do not know it yet. The book goes through how they met and all they things they did with each other to the point of breaking up. What I've read so far shows how blinded love can make people and how totally different you can be from each other but still come together. I really enjoy this book so far and I like how the author decided to put pictures of all the things mentioned by Min.
